The Dutch Ministry of Defence has begun deploying modern radar systems on dozens of Ford 4×4 pickup trucks in order to strengthen the protection of strategic facilities against drones.

The information was published on the ministry’s official website.

The project began on Monday, February 2, with the delivery of new vehicles already prepared to receive the sensors. According to the ministry, the radars will provide early warning of the approach of unmanned aerial vehicles, enabling rapid responses to potential threats.

According to the statement, the systems are capable of distinguishing drones from birds and other moving aerial objects, significantly reducing the number of false alarms — a critical factor for continuous surveillance operations.

The official report does not specify the exact radar model installed, but notes that the first units were received in November. At the same time, the Ministry of Defence announced in late autumn last year the order of 100 radars from the Dutch company Robin Radar, which specializes in UAV detection.

The initiative reflects the growing priority given by the Dutch armed forces to countering low-altitude aerial threats, especially in light of the increasingly frequent use of drones in military and security scenarios.
